Fleet Washing Cost & ROI

What to expect to pay for fleet car washing in 2026, how providers build their pricing, and why a recurring wash program pays for itself on most commercial fleets.

Typical fleet washing prices

Mobile fleet washing is priced per vehicle, with discounts for volume and recurring schedules. As a working baseline for the Tennessee market:

  • Cars, SUVs, pickups: $6–$15 per vehicle on a recurring route, $20–$40 for one-offs.
  • Cargo vans & box trucks: $15–$30 per vehicle on a route, $40–$75 one-off.
  • Semis & tractor-trailers: $30–$75 for an exterior wash, $90–$150 with trailer and tires dressed.
  • Heavy equipment & dump trucks: $75–$200 depending on degreasing and undercarriage work.

What drives the price

Two fleets of the same size rarely pay the same rate. The biggest cost drivers:

  • Fleet size. More vehicles in one stop means less drive time per truck — which is the single biggest input cost.
  • Wash frequency. Weekly or bi-weekly routes cost 30–50% less per wash than one-off jobs because the dirt load is lighter and the route is predictable.
  • Vehicle type & height. Box trucks and trailers need ladders or reach poles; semis often need bug-and-tar removal up front.
  • Water source & runoff. Lots without a hookup or with strict reclaim/runoff rules add equipment time.
  • Add-ons. Wheel brightener, tire dressing, interior wipe-downs, and decal-safe detergents all change the line item.
  • Travel. Anything outside a 20–30 mile radius usually adds a per-mile or trip-charge line.

How to charge for fleet washing

If you're quoting a fleet, price by hourly target, not gut feel per truck. A solid mobile two-person crew should clear $90–$150 per on-site hour after travel and supplies. Work backward:

  1. Decide your hourly target (e.g. $120/hr for two people).
  2. Estimate how many vehicles per hour at this size and dirt level (e.g. 6 pickups/hr or 3 box trucks/hr).
  3. Divide: $120 / 6 = $20 per pickup; $120 / 3 = $40 per box truck.
  4. Add 10–15% buffer for travel, water, and chemicals if you weren't already including them.

The ROI of a clean fleet

For most commercial operators, a recurring wash schedule pays for itself across four buckets:

  • Brand image. Every branded truck is a rolling billboard. A clean fleet signals you take your work seriously before the first phone call.
  • Resale & lease return. Road salt, brake dust, and bug residue eat clear coat. Vehicles washed on a schedule consistently appraise higher at trade-in or lease-return.
  • Maintenance visibility. Clean panels make cracks, leaks, and damage obvious so they get fixed before they're expensive.
  • Driver pride & retention. Drivers take better care of clean equipment — and complain less about the equipment they're handed each morning.

How often should a fleet be washed?

For most service and delivery fleets, every 2 weeks is the sweet spot. Construction, agriculture, and heavy-haul operators usually move to weekly. Branded customer-facing vehicles (food service, mobile retail) often justify weekly washes year-round.
